My favorite moment as a high school student was when Dr. Miller retired last year. Even though I really appreciated Dr. Miller as our principal I felt that he was a little too strict on us. Dr. Miller would not let us use our phones at all, we were restricted in doing so many things, but now that we have Mr. Carr as our principal we have more freedom something that we wouldn't have with Dr. Miller. With Mr. Carr, we can now use our phones during lunch and now we have a little more freedom on what we can wear for uniforms.

Prom
My favorite moment as a senior at Sion Tech would be when I went to prom. Since I was a freshman in this school I always wanted to go to prom and I could not wait for when I would be a senior. Now that I am a senior I am so glad I went to prom, it was one of the best moments of my high school years and it was so much fun. All the dancing, spending time with friends, the excitement of being there made all the more special the event and I will never forget about it.
Government and Economics Class
My favorite moment as a member of my Government and the Economic class was current events. Current events would always happen on Mondays in the morning and our teacher would talk about events that are happening currently or at that time at least. During this times I really enjoyed it because we would learn about things that are irrelevant to government or economics and I like that. One time when we had current events he told us that this woman was arrested because she had her kid in a closet, I was so impacted by this news that in my art class I did a poster about it.
Checks and Balances
The government has a separation of power which is shared among three branches. These three branches are executive, legislative and judicial. Each branch is independent so that no one branch takes control. This can also be called checks and balances a way to keep 1 branch from becoming too powerful. The executive branch can propose laws and veto bills to the legislative branch but the legislative branch can override the veto with a ⅔ vote in both houses to the executive branch. The judicial branch can declare treaties unconstitutional to the legislative branch but the legislative branch can impeach judges to the judicial branch.
Separation of power and checks and balances are really important because without this rules all the power would be in one pair of hands. With the power shared, each branch would need the consent of the other. If this rules would not exist all the power would just be to one branch. And the one that would benefit the most would only be that branch since that one is the one that has all the power.
Econ/Needs and Wants
Economics is the study of how people satisfy their needs and wants. Needs are things that a person has to have to survive like food, water, and shelter. Wants are those things that you would like but do not need to survive like a car, a phone, T.V etc. But there is also scarcity which is when you have a limited amount of resources to meet unlimited wants and need. In other words, scarcity is when there is a lack of resources to meet a big demand. Everything is scarce so there is a limited amount of resources and we need to make choices and that is why we do a trade off.
Know the difference between needs and wants, knowing that there is scarcity and that there is trade-off is important so you can have your priorities straight. If you had an option between a new phone or a book that you need for college you would need to make a choice and get your priorities straight to make the right choice. If you did not have your priorities straight and knew the differences between need and want then chances are you would have chosen the new phone instead of the book that you need for college.
The Bill of Rights
One of my favorite topics discussed in Government would be The Bill of Rights. These first 10 amendments protect individual rights of everybody, and without them, the government's power would have no limitation. The 1st and maybe the most important amendment of all is the freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. The 2nd the right to bear arms, 3rd quartering of soldiers, 4th arrest and searches, 5th rights of persons accused of a crime. The 6th amendment is rights of persons on trial for crimes, 7th jury trials in civil cases, 8th limitations on bail and punishment, 9th rights kept by the people. Lastly, the last amendment which is the powers kept by the states or the people.
All of this amendment are important because without them our rights would be gone. I am pretty sure that no one would like to be forced by the government to have a specific believe that we have to follow. If we were to be arrested for some reason and the cops would ask you questions you could just plead the fifth so you don’t self-incriminate yourself and you can remain silent. Without this amendment, we would all be in jail because we would have to answer the questions the cop asks. The Bill of Rights helps us protect our individual liberties and without them, the government would be able to control our lives and that is why everyone should know the first 10 amendments.
